About Sparrow

Who I Am

Hi all, my name is Rebecca and I’m a social work therapist located in Chatham, Ontario. For the past 17 years it’s been my privilege to work with both adults and children to find stability, resolution, and happiness in their lives. I have worked in community mental health clinics, private practice groups, and most recently at the Thamesview Family Health Team.

I’m relatively new to Chatham (8 years). When not seeing clients, I like to spend time with family, travel, read, garden, learn random bits of history, swim and sit near the water.

I prefer to see clients in person at my centrally located, private office space. I can also accommodate virtual counselling upon request. I offer a free 15 minute Discovery Call to all prospective clients as I feel strongly that a therapist and client need to be a good fit in order to create meaningful change. This also helps reduce anxiety if you are new to counselling.

Adult Therapy

Sparrow counselling offers counselling to individuals and those in relationships (couples, thruples, consensual non-monogamy, polyamory). I’m a sex positive therapist which is a fancy way to say I enjoy helping people take the shame and judgment out of their sexuality, gender identity and expression, relationship style choice, and reproductive rights. I’m predominantly an attachment based therapist which means I recognize the importance of trusting, emotionally attentive relationships throughout a person’s life. I’m a trauma informed therapist with special interest and training in both developmental trauma and adult children of alcoholics.

Children’s Therapy

I have extensive training in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for children. This is a specific form of therapy that helps children with trauma identify emotions, learn coping skills for anxiety, and work through trauma memories to desensitize and lower the intensity of emotions. Although this therapy method is approved for ages 3-18, I am currently only accepting children ages 6-18 in my practice.
